A quarter of a century after her first recording for the Linn label and rather longer than that since she made her stage debut as a sassy 15-year-old, Glasgow's Carol Kidd has made her finest album. Produced by Graeme Duffin (best known as the guitar man with Wet Wet Wet) and with a first-class band of drummer Alyn Cosker, bassist Mario Caribe, pianist Paul Harrison and Nigel Clark on guitar, this is Kidd at the top of her game on superb arrangements of standards including Gershwin's
How Long Has This Been Going On? and Porter's
It's Alright With Me, as well as two fine originals, composed with Clark. For newcomers there's even a version of her signature tune,
When I Dream. She has never sounded better.
