The Sir Charles Mackerras, Artur Pizarro and the SCO join forces

05 November 2008

Sir Charles Mackerras, Artur Pizarro and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra dazzled audiences with their recent performances in Perth and Glasgow on the 30th and 31st October. The programme of Mozart and Beethoven was met with great acclaim and, as Kenneth Walton from The Scotsman states: "every moment was one to savour and remember".

The orchestra opened with Mozart's ‘Paris' Symphony. In an interesting twist the orchestra played two middle movements. As Sir Charles explained, the first was Mozart's original slow movement and the second was a brisker and simpler alternative which was deemed more suitable for the Parisians.

The audience was then treated to a Beethoven Piano Concerto - the 3rd was performed in Perth and the 4th in Glasgow. Artur Pizarro joined the esteemed conductor and orchestra in a fine display of pianistic virtuosity. This performance was also a rehearsal for the recording sessions which have just been completed. As The Scotsman commented: "the prospects for that future Linn release look fascinating". Look out for more details on www.linnrecords.com...

The orchestra then returned to Mozart with a performance of the ‘Linz' Symphony. This evening truly was a "rare combination in performance of intellectual maturity and youthful zest, a reflection of the man with the baton".

Earlier this year Sir Charles Mackerras and the SCO released 'Mozart Symphonies 38 - 41' to great acclaim - a perfect festive treat for friends and family...or yourself!
