Judith Owen in "1000 Years of Popluar Music" UK Tour
22 October 2008
Linn Records artist Judith Owen will perform nineteen UK tour dates in the acclaimed Richard Thompson project "1000 Years of Popular Music". Scheduled for January / February 2009, these will be Owen's first live appearances in the UK since the release of her acclaimed album "Happy This Way".
The tour will take in major venues including The Barbican (London), The Sage (Gateshead), The Lowry (Salford) and the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow.
Thompson conceived his "1000 Years of Popular Music" show after a snub by Playboy magazine: "The idea for this project came from Playboy magazine-I was asked to submit a list, in late 1999, of the ten greatest songs of the Millennium. Hah! I thought, hypocrites-they don't mean millennium, they mean twenty years-I'll call their bluff and do a real thousand-year selection."
All songs are arranged for a single guitar, percussion and vocal backing - as provided by Owen. Material includes So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo (Orazio Vecchi), There is Beauty (Gilbert and Sullivan), Kiss (Prince) and numerous traditional songs re-arranged by Thompson himself.
Judith Owen has worked closely with iconic British folk rock legend Thompson in recent years and she has gained loyal following Stateside for her solo work. Her recent album on Linn Records "Happy This Way" was praised in particular for her self-penned songs Conway Bay and Painting by Numbers.
