Linn Artists Nominated for Scots Trad Music Awards
05 November 2008
Linn Records is delighted to announce the nomination of two key Scottish artists on the label for the 2008 Scots Trad Music Awards. Selected by a panel of journalists and key figures from the world of Scottish traditional music, this is becoming established as the foremost event in the folk calendar north-of-the-border.
Fiona Mackenzie has been nominated Album of the Year for her album "Elevate". Described in Songlines as "delicious, captivating listening" and in Maverick as "full of exquisite musical moments", this album has been well-received by a diverse range of audiences. Produced by the widely-respected Calum Malcolm, it's a real grower and is now receiving the attention it surely deserves.
Meanwhile, Dr Fred Freeman has been nominated for a Services to Industry Award. He is producer of the remarkable 13 volume series "The Complete Songs of Robert Burns", a feat compared "in folk terms to the painting of the Sistine Chapel" by The Herald. He has also collaborated with Jim Reid, Gordeanna McCulloch and Ian Bruce. Dr Fred Freeman is currently Hon Fellow in English at the University of Edinburgh and is the author of a book on the 18th-century Edinburgh poet Robert Fergusson as well as having written upwards of 100 articles on Scottish literature and folk music.
You can show your support by voting for them here before Friday 21 November, 2008.
Arranged by Hands Up for Trad, the aim of these awards is "to highlight Scotland's wonderful traditional music in all its forms and to create a high profile opportunity which will bring the music and music industry into the spotlight of media & public attention."
Now in their 6th year the Awards Ceremony will be held in Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket on the 6th December.
