Mackerras's Mozart is number seven in the UK classical charts
10 March 2008
"Mozart's Last Four Symphonies" performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras has remained at number seven in the UK classical charts for the second week running!
The appearance of this album in a chart more often filled with classical cross-over artists indicates that there is an audience for core classical repertoire from independent labels.
"It is reassuring that core classical repertoire can still excite audiences," says Caroline Dooley, Linn Records Business Manager. "The media often paints a picture of doom regarding classical music sales, but we were delighted to see the frenzy that built up throughout the first week of album sales, with customers who were desperate to get their hands on a copy of the album."
Sir Charles Mackerras was said to be "tickled pink" with the success of the album which went straight in at no.7 in the classical charts last week.
"The audience for classical music is alive and well. Just like music lovers in other genres, classical fans need new recordings to get excited about, and Sir Charles has certainly delivered with this incredible set of late Mozart symphonies." says Matt Groom, Classical Division Manager at UK distributor RSK Entertainment. "This recording has something new to say about these symphonies, relevant to listeners in the 21st century".
