Jazz vocalist
Claire Martin has a stunning voice and some of the finest UK jazz releases of recent times on
Linn Records. She is responsible for some of Girl Talk’s more bizarre repertoire choices (and shoes!).
High Queen of Cabaret, Barb Jungr’s reworkings of Jacques Brel, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley’s repertoire on Linn Records have amazed and shocked. Who knew she could turn her hand to Twinkle’s "Terry" and play the harmonica?
Neasden’s famous Queen of Soul, Mari Wilson, has a new release "Dolled Up" on Beehive Records, in Girl Talk this iconic pop singer also blows a mean kazoo and blows the budget on eyelashes.
In 1998 Barb and Claire went to see the singer Rebecca Paris at Pizza Express Jazz Club. On the night, Barb met Mari Wilson again, having appeared with her as part of The Wilsations some years previously. The three agreed to work together on the show Girl Talk and spent many a happy time around Mari’s orange kitchen table arguing and eating gluten free florentines. The show opened at a packed Cochrane Theatre, and has since, with some repertoire changes, played sell-out seasons and theatres in the UK over a seven year period. In 2004 the BBC recorded an hour long special of Girl Talk in concert at The Met Bar for Russell Davies’ August Bank Holiday show. During 2006 the trio released their self-titled debut album (Linn AKD 279) on Linn Records launching it at a sell-out Queen Elizabeth Hall in London in the summer.
